Come; fly- with Ghoyla, Ekronga Mookhpora, Mombaati and Petkati! Know them? They are different kinds of kites! Kiting originated in China. Uttarayan – the International Kite Festival in Gujarat is one of the biggest events in India. In eastern India Vokatta is the biggest organised kite festival that showcases the rich heritage of Indian kite making and flying.

The sport is enthralling, competitive and a real test of patience; but at the end of the grind it is bound to bring a wide smile on your face as your mind soars into the clouds with your kite.

The world's biggest kite was in the shape of an Octopus that flew over a grassland in Hohhot on Aug. 5, 2014. The kite, weighing 200 kg, covered an area of about 1,500 square meters.

Kites with large surface areas or a powerful lift can lift kite fliers off the ground or drag them into other objects.

In Chile, kites are very popular, especially during Independence Day festivities on September 18.

In Pakistan, kite flying is known as Patang-bazi and is a popular ritual during Jashn-e-Baharaa - the Spring festival.
